what we’re about

Integrative Mind was founded to expand access to the healing benefits of integrative medicine, and connect more people with a holistic approach to their well-being.

Integrative medicine is a holistic approach to mental health care that focuses on you as a whole person, not just your symptoms. At our practice, we believe in combining the strengths of both worlds: the evidence-based practices of Western medicine with the insights of holistic wellness approaches. This means we look beyond traditional treatments to incorporate therapies that address the mind, body, and spirit.

We take the time to understand your unique experiences, challenges, and goals. Our integrative approach may include a combination of conventional psychiatric treatments, such as medication and psychotherapy, alongside complementary therapies like mindfulness, nutrition, and lifestyle changes. Our goal is to empower you with the tools and support you need to achieve a balanced, fulfilling life. We work collaboratively with you to develop a personalized care plan that respects your values and preferences, helping you navigate your mental health journey with compassion and expertise.

so, what is integrative medicine?

"We treat the whole person, addressing the root cause of illness. Even small shifts in areas of lifestyle, work, nutrition, exercise, sleep, and mindset can have a huge impact on mental health.”

Our Guiding Principles

  • Kindness, empathy, and understanding are at the core of our practice. We are here to meet you wherever you are on your journey, providing a safe and supportive environment where healing and growth are possible.

  • Our practice blends conventional and alternative therapies to create a personalized treatment plan that addresses your mind, body, spirit, and environment. We leverage a wide variety of treatments and healing traditions, ensuring we use the most effective therapies with the fewest side effects to support your optimal well-being.

  • We take a comprehensive approach to your health, considering the unique blend of factors that shape your well-being. Our aim is not just to address challenges but also to empower you with the knowledge and tools needed to sustain optimal mental and physical health over time.

  • We believe in a partnership approach to care, where you and our team work together as equals toward your health goals. We respect your autonomy, values, and needs, and strive to create a healing and transformative relationship based on mutual respect and collaboration.

  • We celebrate a diversity of thoughts, ideas, beliefs, and experiences and are committed to creating an inclusive environment that welcomes everyone, regardless of race, mental or physical ability, gender identity, sexual orientation, political perspective, nation of origin, family structure, marital status, education background, financial means, or age. As an anti-racist organization, we actively challenge racism and seek to understand and correct any inequities. We foster spaces where all individuals feel seen, valued, and accepted by removing hierarchical power structures and including diverse voices in decision-making.

  • We view all life experiences as opportunities for learning and growth. Our approach respects your unique path of development and focuses on helping you strengthen your innate self-healing abilities. We aim to support your journey towards optimal well-being by recognizing and nurturing your natural capacity to heal and thrive.

  • We are committed to providing care that is grounded in the latest scientific research. Your initial evaluation and ongoing treatment are guided by evidence-based practices to ensure the highest quality of care.

  • Recovery and growth happen best within a network of support. We actively engage with your social and care networks to promote a collaborative approach to your wellness, ensuring that you receive comprehensive and continuous support.

  • We prioritize our own wellness and growth, allowing us to be fully present, authentic, and knowledgeable as we guide you on your path to optimal health. Our commitment to self-care and continuous learning enhances our ability to provide compassionate, effective care.

Dr. Bliss Lewis, MD

Viewing each individual person through the lens of their whole life and environment, you can make instrumental shifts that have ripple effects through their physical and mental well-being.

Dr. Bliss Lewis’ connection to integrative psychiatry started early. Growing up in rural Poland, she watched family members use centuries-old herbal and food-based remedies to treat body and mind together—demonstrating the profound connection between the two.

Throughout her career, Dr. Lewis has sought to honor that connection between mind and body. She earned her MD from Harvard Medical School, studying adult psychiatry at Columbia University and child psychiatry at the NYU Child Study Center. She also trained with holistic medicine practitioners in India and studied with Dr. Herbert Benson, the pioneering founder of the Mind / Body Medical Institute at Massachusetts General Hospital. During this time, Dr. Lewis enhanced her expertise as an MD with extensive training in yoga, mindfulness, and a diverse range of mind-body therapies.

Dr. Bliss Lewis is also the founder of Mind Body Seven, an out-of-network mental health and wellness practice based in Brooklyn.
